In the present study, the usability of the 3D Print system was tested to evaluate, whether it is possible to produce an individually adapted plastic horseshoe based on a photograph of the weightbearing surface of the hoof and its measured dimensions. Furthermore, data on the accuracy of the print of the horseshoes compared to the planned models were collected for plain as well as orthopaedic shoes with features such as wedges and extensions. For this test ten shoes with fittings for different orthopaedic indications were produced and six patient horses were supplied with individually adapted fittings according to the instructions of the treating veterinarian. The present study has shown that it is possible to print individually adapted horseshoes using a photograph and the dimensions of the hooves and to produce orthopedic shoes according to given specifications. The statistical evaluation of the data on the accuracy of fit revealed significant differences in length and width from the planned horse shoes (within a few millimetres), but there were no significant deviations of the special orthopaedic requirements from the plan. This study shows that it is possible to plan and to 3D print plastic horseshoes with an adequate precision using the “Shoemaker” (The New Century horseshoes & fittings ltd.®, Dublin, Ireland) software and printer, which is a promising result for future patients requiring such shoes. application/pdf diploma Dissertation Diplomarbeit - Veterinärmedizinische Universität Wien - 2020 In der Weiterentwicklung des Hufbeschlags bietet sich der 3D- Druck aufgrund seiner Vielseitigkeit zur Herstellung individuell angepasster Kunststoffbeschläge an.
